Vassaltis Winery

Having studied Economics, Yiannis Valambous left behind the noisy streets of London for the serenity of vineyards in Santorini. He turned the land he inherited from his father into a new winery. Despite the nightmare of Greek bureaucracy and heavy taxation, Yannis has made his dream come true. This year he will be waiting to welcome you at the Vassaltis Winery in Aghia Irini in Vourvoulou. “One should become the change themseves, to see changes and make things really happen” he says. Together with Ilias Rousakis and Yiannis Papaikonomou, they prepared the 4 first labels of the winery - Santorini, Santorini Barrel, another white variety (Nassitis) and a red one (Vassanos).  And he goes on: “There is room in the market, and the demand for the Santorinian wine is really high. We have to promote the Santorini vineyard more, so that the island will become a wine destination, and the assyrtiko a world renowned variety from Santorini”.
